Join Oerknal for a set of concerts exploring the relationship between music and words!

Featuring music by our 2014 composer-in-residence Nathan Heidelberger, including Descriptions of the Moon - a song cycle for mezzo-soprano and piano that sets texts from nine different authors and poets. This song cycle will be interwoven with Breather, a new composition by Nathan written especially for Oerknal. Also on the docket are …the crisis of conscience when making war but the need is to make love (and vice versa)… - a fiercely energetic and original sextet by American composer Lewis Nielson – and Pression – a strikingly visceral piece by Helmut Lachenmann exploring the range of sounds that can be produced by a solo cello.

Poet Amber-Helena Reisig, a rising-star in the Dutch literary scene, joins Oerknal to read poetry created especially for these concerts, functioning as a spoken counterpoint to the music.
